Traveling Light
Out of necessity, I believe most bikers to be light travel packers. Due, primarily, to the fact that there are only so many places on a bike to strap some luggage down to. But surely, we can all use a few pointers to get a little more space in our luggage so we can take more ’stuff’ with us on our next trip.
Although it is geared primarily for airline travel, Travelite.org has put together a great aid for bikers who are also looking to maximize their available packing are. In ‘Putting It All Together’, Travelite tells us the secret to packing light is to be able to
…compartmentalize all of your goodies by category, puttings things into sacks, bags, envelopes and packs. This will allow you to easily get to the item you are looking for. When you open up your pack the most that will happen is that some smaller sacks will tumble out, ready for you to grasp.
In addition, they offer the mnemonic, ‘T-R-A-V-E-L’ to help you remember how.
- T - Toiletries
- R - Reading Materials
- A - ‘Aid’ Pack
- V - Vital Documents
- E - Electrical/Electronics/Etc
- L - Laundry
To view the specifics of each category, visit the Travelite.org site.
And remember, while all these categories may not necessarily be used when you go to your next rally, you will more than likely use at least four of them and find great value in the process.
Enjoy!
