Motorcycle ownership cost

Ever wondered what it actually would or does cost you to own a motorcycle? Perhaps because you are wanting to purchase a new bike and have to justify it to your significant other? Or just because you are wondering if there is a better way to get around as you were filling up the tank on your massive SUV?
If so, check out this evaluation of the cost of owing a motorcycle by James over at WhyBike? You can find the post here.
In his post, James performs a comparison of how the real cost of owning a bike stacks up to owning a car or SUV over a 5 year period. For example, here are the factors he compares.
Here are the factors I used to calculate operating costs over 5 years and 50K miles:
* Purchase Price - MSRP
* Depreciation - From Kelley Blue Book
* Fuel Cost - $3.25/gallon, the current price at the station nearest me
* Safety Gear/Rain Gear
* Training
* Insurance
* Tolls/Parking
* Tires
* Maintenance/Service - Average cost from Yahoo Autos
* Fees, Taxes
* Repairs - Average cost from Yahoo Autos
* Opportunity cost is the amount of interest that the purchase price would have garnered if you had left it in the bank.
This is a fairly detailed comparison that may surprise you at times.
Enjoy!
